Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir, known professionally as Laufey (pronounced lāy-vāy), is an Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of jazz pop and bedroom pop, often described as "modern jazz". Born on April 23, 1999, into a musically enriched family, Laufey's multicultural background is reflected in the unique tapestry of her sound.
Her musical journey began at a young age, mastering the piano at four and the cello at eight, eventually becoming a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra by the age of 15. Additionally, a finalist on Ísland Got Talent and a semi-finalist on The Voice Iceland. Laufey graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2021 with a presidential scholarship, setting the stage for her rapid rise in the music indsutry.
Laufey's debut EP, "Typical of Me," released in 2021, gained attention from industry veterans and peers. Her debut album, "Everything I Know About Love," released in 2022, topped charts and established her as a notable figure in alternative music.
In 2023, Laufey released her second album, "Bewitched," earning her a Grammy nomination. Beyond her music, she's collaborated with orchestras, performed at the London Jazz Festival, and hosted a radio show on BBC Radio 3. Her social media presence, especially on TikTok and Instagram, showcases engaging live sessions, connecting with fans globally.
